I spent a week in Hawaii looking up through palms to blue sky.
Then when my neck ached I looked ahead and down and around and in the towns and cities away from the soaring trees and skies, and I saw doors and gates and paths and windows and people and cats and dogs and gutters and weeds struggling through concrete and cigarette stubs on sidewalks, and a toothless man who told me to "get lost" when I smiled his way. It wasn't the post-card moment I was hoping it would be. So I started looking up again, through palms to my blue sky.
