Pomegranate

Punica granatum

In the Bible, Homeric Hymns, Koran and my back yard.

Latin for seeded apple

Punica for the Phoenicians who cultivated it for religious reasons.

  1. A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I used to think that the pomegranate was the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It just seemed right to me that, metaphorically speaking, it would be something that was hard as HELL to eat, and STAIN like SIN in the process.
